Working for an on-site agency
On-site agencies feature all kinds of agency people. Creative designers, digital superheroes, structured project managers and great leaders. Account managers who understand the client, artists who surprise and inspire – all top-notch professionals doing what they do best.
-
The story of ZITE actually begins quite simply: two people are put on the same stage to discuss in-house marketing.
On paper, they should disagree.
On one side sits Peer, coming from the traditional agency world. He has led international agencies, started his own, and now runs ZUPA—a classic Danish advertising agency, brought in as external experts when clients need help solving complex creative or strategic challenges.
On the other side: Kasper. Former Head of Creative at Maersk, Saxo Bank, and Georg Jensen—and the guy who has built some of the most creative and effective in-house agencies.
But Peer is working on something. Something new.
He’s in the process of building Denmark’s first externally run in-house agency at Grundfos. A team that sits inside the company, but is operated from the outside. A completely new model—one no one has really tried before, at least not around here.
At the same time, Kasper’s company is advising businesses like GN Hearing, MARS, and DSV on how to design and build their own in-house setups.
Two different paths into the same space.
The discussion on stage doesn’t go quite as planned. Instead of disagreeing, they start recognizing each other’s problems.
They’ve both seen agencies sitting too far from the business. And in-house teams sitting too close—slowly losing the ability to see things from the outside.
The conversation doesn’t stop when they leave the stage. It continues in the car. On the phone. Across the country. Again and again, they circle around the same question: is it possible to build a new kind of agency? One that takes the best from both worlds—without dragging the problems along?
They want to build something that challenges the traditional way of thinking about agencies and in-house teams. Something that doesn’t force you to choose sides. Something that fundamentally disrupts the agency model.
That’s where ZITE begins to take shape.
And quite quickly, one thing becomes clear: it only works if it scales. If you take the models and ways of working Kasper has developed at Maersk and beyond, and combine them with the classic agency mindset—project management, craft, and creative excellence.
Not a place where you reinvent the wheel every time. But a model. A clear, structured way of working that can be repeated from company to company. Without starting over. Not as one-off experiments, but as iterations of something already proven to work.
Because while there’s a difference between making pumps, selling cars, or delivering energy—there’s no real difference in how you create a film, a banner, or a social media post.
What matters is sitting 20 meters down the hall. Knowing what’s actually going on. Understanding the problems. The products. The customers.
ZITE isn’t an idea or a theory.
It’s built from experience. Tested in the real world. And sharpened over time.
That’s the method the first ZITEs were built on. And the one we still build on today.
It’s also why we’ve grown into one of Denmark’s largest agencies—and why we’re now moving beyond it.
-
There are two classic ways to organize marketing.
One lives inside the company. Close to the product, close to decisions, close to reality. Fast to react. But often surrounded by the same people, the same patterns, and the same solutions.
The other lives outside. Full of inspiration, pace, and new ideas. But a bit too far from the engine room. A few too many meetings before anything happens. And a bit too little feel for what actually matters day to day.
ZITE is built in the space between the two. Not as a compromise, but as a construction that takes the best from both worlds. Because marketing isn’t about where people sit. It’s about how the work gets done. And that work is something we’ve spent more than 15 years taking apart and putting back together the right way.
We’ve seen what works. And what looks like it works—but doesn’t. We’ve seen briefs so thin they almost disappear on the way to the copywriter. And processes so heavy that the idea dies before it ever makes it onto paper. And we’ve seen the opposite. When the right people work in the right flows, with the right structures in place, ideas don’t come out of nowhere. They come because the conditions are there.
That’s what ZITE is. Not a collection of people. Not seven different in-house agencies. But a way of working. A model where we don’t reinvent the wheel every time, but use our energy where it actually makes a difference. On the idea. On the story. On what people remember.
The truth is, it’s not very glamorous to rethink a banner. But there’s something deeply satisfying about knowing exactly how it should be made, who does it, and how long it takes. When that becomes second nature—when it sits in your spine and in consistent methods—it frees up something else. Something better. That’s why we are so strict about our model. Not because we love process. But because we know what happens when it’s not there.
We receive thousands of briefs. Every month. Year after year. That gives a pretty clear picture of where things go wrong. And where they go right.
When something needs to be cut back. When something needs to be challenged. And when you should simply let the right people do their job.
ZITE is built on that. On flows over gut feeling. On experience over guesswork. And on a very simple idea: the best marketing happens when you combine the proximity of in-house with experience from the outside. Not 50/50. But the best from both.
We don’t call it in-house.
We call it win-win-house. -
If the first part is about how we work, this part is about how we are measured.
Because in reality, it’s quite simple. A ZITE agency is always measured against two things: an external agency and an internal one. Can we be just as creative as those on the outside? And can we be faster and sharper than those on the inside? If we can’t do both, the model doesn’t make sense.
Creativity is the first test.
It’s what determines whether anything gets seen at all. If people don’t stop, nothing else matters. We can produce 200 versions, 14 formats, and 6 adaptations for different markets—it won’t change a thing.
If it’s not relevant, interesting, or worth people’s time, it’s just noise. That’s why we insist that an idea must be able to stand on its own. Not dressed up. Not fully produced. Just there—sketched with a black marker on a piece of paper. If it doesn’t work there, it won’t work later. This is where we spend our time. Not on making things look good, but on making them right. And that requires focus. Space. And a setup that doesn’t constantly pull people away from it.
Then comes the second part: efficiency.
Not the boring version where you just run faster. The practical one. How long does it take to get something out the door? How many loops do we go through? How much gets redone because we didn’t get it right the first time? How long from a brief lands—until something is live?
This is where most setups fail. Not because people aren’t talented, but because everything around the work takes too long. Too many revisions. Too many misunderstandings. Too much “let’s try one more version.” And it eats the time. Time that should be spent where it actually makes a difference: on the idea.
We want to spend time and energy where it matters. More time upfront finding something worth making. And in return, less time afterwards fixing, adjusting, and discussing our way toward something that should have been right from the start.
Creativity and efficiency are not opposites. They are connected. When one is in place, the other follows.
And that is what the model is really trying to solve: creating space for what requires time—and removing what shouldn’t take it.

Best of both worlds
“If you like the creativity and vision that a typical advertising agency provides, but prefer the traditional surroundings of a larger business, working at ZITE is x what you’re looking for. It’s a perfect demonstration of the benefits of the on-site agency model.”
Strong partnerships
“Chitchatting with clients at the coffee machine means a lot more than you might think. The best and most trustworthy partnerships are built on strong relations and the on-site model that ZITE practices really helps to build these relations.”
Know the culture
“Working at an on-site agency, you’re perceived as a partner rather than a supplier. You get to know the client organisation’s culture, target groups, strategy etc. better than you possibly could if your office was located 100 or 200 kilometres away, for instance. When you combine that with ZITE’s strong agency background, the foundations are there to create amazing work.”
BETTER. TOGETHER.
At ZITE, we are more than just an agency. We are a partner, a team, and a family because we believe that we are better together.
BETTER TOGETHER WITH OUR CLIENTS
Our clients are not just customers; they are partners. By being located just 20 meters down the hall, we have a unique advantage. We sit side-by-side with our clients, immersing ourselves in their business. We understand their brand, products, and goals as intimately as they do—sometimes even better. This close proximity allows us to respond swiftly to their needs, make informed decisions, and create marketing strategies that hit the mark every time.
By downsizing internal teams to focus solely on strategy and planning, businesses can maintain a laser-sharp focus on market trends, brand positioning, and long-term objectives. This lean approach ensures your core team isn’t overwhelmed by day-to-day operational tasks.
BETTER TOGETHER AS A TEAM
Working at ZITE means that our employees are never alone. Our team is always ready to share insights, offer help, and collaborate on solutions. We are surrounded by colleagues who understand our challenges and are just as passionate about finding the right answers.
This means that we can drive education on a bigger scale than most in-house setups. We can learn from experience in one ZITE to another. And if our employees want to try new things, they can develop within our organization and move to a new role at another agency or even end up starting their own. This allows us to plan ahead and make long-term development plans for employees.
BETTER TOGETHER WITH OUR FAMILY
We are part of a broader network, the Spring Family. This means we have access to offshore production capabilities and specialized creative and strategic agencies. When you join ZITE, you’re also joining a larger ecosystem that amplifies our abilities and extends our reach. This extended family provides the flexibility to scale operations efficiently, access unique expertise, and ensure our clients always receive the best possible service.
